Kaizen Event Saves Over $1 Million

| Posted in Case Studies

New-Tech’s team participated with one of our large customers in a Kaizen event focused on eliminating waste in the supply chain.

Over a three month period, our two companies discovered and eliminated:

  • two layers of temporary packaging, which were being thrown away.
  • one complete round trip, where packages were loaded and unloaded (at each facility).

Besides the waste that was eliminated, we increased the throughput time and shortened lead times, making our customer more responsive to the retail market.

These efforts saved the customer 13.4%, representing over one million dollars worth of savings, annually.

Merck awards New-Tech for Outstanding Quality Performance

New-Tech is proud to share that our customer, Merck, a high-performing, world class consumer products company, has awarded us with their Quality Award for Outstanding Performance. This high honor was acknowledged and given by Merck’s quality representatives in recognition that our quality performance has so significantly increased.

We are proud of our Quality Assurance employees and their great work, as this award is largely a result of New-Tech’s consistency and excellent performance in our repackaging plans.

“As Quality Assurance Director, this is as important to us as any award we could have received,” Joel French says. “This just continues to increase our good relationship with such an important customer.”

This award acknowledges our “diligent efforts that contribute to our collective success”. And it is just this, our “collective success”, that spurs both companies on towards greatness. Both Merck’s and New-Tech’s success is intertwined, evident in the genuine thankfulness and excitement communicated through this award.

Corporate Citizenship in Action

Being a good neighbor doesn’t only mean being good to the neighbors on the street where you lay your head each night, but in our eyes, the neighbors surrounding New-Tech’s facilities, whether a business or residence.

At New-Tech we have been intentional in our efforts. During the holiday season, we joined The Binghampton Development Corporation’s (BDC) outreach to provide gently used coats to neighbors, collecting coats from our employees which were distributed during a one-day event. Again in partnership with the BDC, we hosted a job fair to attract employees from within our HUBZone.

A representative of New-Tech meets monthly with a coalition of non-profits, businesses, and other outreach organizations who are doing work – from education reform, to housing and economic development and more – in the Binghampton community.

Additionally New-Tech is participating in the Mayor’s Office and Community Lift’s plans for greater development in three areas of the city, which includes Binghampton.
